I had another account 2 years prior to that but I could no longer use it because my email wasn’t able to be verified so I couldn’t comment. Made this account after that and I was still able to see comments from the old account which are now gone.

What are you talking about, this isn't the first time they've deleted all comments. If you made a comment 8 years ago. It should've been deleted a long time ago.

I've been on this site over 8 years, and it's the first time in all that time that comments have been purged. Or at least the first time in 7 years, since I just got an upvote on a 7 year old comment a couple of months ago.

But I don't recall it happening in the year before that, either.

I've seen it happen many times, I've been on this site since it was created. Regardless, you may have gotten lucky, maybe you commented on an anime that they happened to miss. Cause purging the vast majority of comments is something they've been doing periodically. My first comments on my first account were deleted a long time ago.

Why do they need to purge comments periodically? I thought the internet has unlimited data storage? Useful comments from before are wasted by the deletion, the insights and theories of people all over the world are deleted which is a bummer for me because I do not dwell deeply in any anime and I just watch not read any mangas. Hopefully, they wont delete these comments again,

Well, I just checked and they actually didn't completely purge all the comments. They just got rid of a good chunk of them. I'm not entirely sure why they do it, however, my best guess is that old comments start becoming a bit irrelevant. It probably encourages people to make new comments on older animes. Think about it, if someone was to check out an anime and it had so many comments that they knew no one would end up reading their comment (because it would go all the way to the bottom of the page). They'd be a lot less likely to comment. Now, if the same person saw no comments, they'd be more likely to say something like "why has no one commented on this anime yet?" or "hey, has anyone watched this anime yet? Is it good?". To which they'd likely receive a reply. My guess is that this is useful for gogo, cause more new comments indicates increased activity.
Note, this is only speculation..

They changed the domain so all comments were lost. Maybe they were backed up and will be uploaded again, or maybe not, but anyway gogoanime is a big community and there will be plenty comments again

The comments were lost a couple of weeks after the domain change, so that's not it. I think it was just an archive and purge, considering the vast number of comments on the site that were eating up bandwidth.

Now THAT may be related to the new domain.
